When you are initially diagnosed, there’s so many things you are told about your disease, and you don’t know what all to pay attention to.
Looking back, what are some of the things you felt were important to know?
In today’s post, we will look at the CRC101 Learning Center and we will get to this question.
This Learning Center was created because we needed to have a place to house the information in the COLONTOWN CRC101 group that I had created and used to manage. The CRC101 Learning Center on CTU today is way more than what we had imagined it to be when we 1st started work on it in 2021. This was also the project around which the CTU Content Team came into existence.
Today let’s look at the 1st section in CRC101 called “What do I really need to know?”
Here, you can learn about the NCCN Patient guidelines for Colon cancer and Rectal Cancer. These are written in patient friendly language & format and are a must-read for everyone.
In “What do I really need to know”, let’s learn about the common biomarkers we need to know about: MSS/MSI-H, RAS, BRAF and HER2/ERBB2.
Are you familiar with these biomarkers? If you are a stage IV patient (or caregiver) it is very important that you know about these ones as they influence treatment decisions and clinical trials patients can get on.
If you are a non-metastatic CRC patient (stages I to III) you need to know if your tumor is MSS or MSI-H and if your tumor is BRAF mutated. If you don’t know this information, it is important to ask your care team about it.
